Rice is an important and strategic commodity for the Indonesian nation. Food in this case rice is the basic human need, especially the people of Indonesia. Therefore, to ensure the stability of food security, the Government issued Government Regulation No. 68 Year 2002 on Food Security as a regulation of the implementation of Law No.7 of 1996 concerning food.
The successful implementation of food security development is determined by good planning. In order to prepare good planning, accurate and timely data and information as the basis for determining the targets and objectives to be achieved. Errors of data and information both regarding the accuracy and timeliness used as inputs result in the planning being made will not be useful or even harmful if the plan is implemented.
KSA is defined as a sampling approach that uses the land area as the enumeration unit. This system is based on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, remote sensing, information technology, and statistics which is currently being implemented in Indonesia for the acquisition of data and information on food crop agriculture. The KSA approach is expected to respond to the provision of accurate and timely data and information to support the planning of the National Food Security Program.
Implementation of this KSA activity can be realized as a result of cooperation between the Central Bureau of Statistics, and the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology. Statistical unit (statistical unit) targeted activities to the District level, while the object of agricultural commodities of food crops is rice. Nevertheless it is still possible for expanded forward development for other food crop commodities.
KSA field activities are held monthly in the last week. So do not be surprised if every end of the month, there will be officers who come to the fields, walk around the fields, and take pictures of rice fields.
